Recently, my producer Jen Sendrow and I spent a cold, rainy Saturday cozying up to the craft table at Spacecraft in Williamsburg where we were hosted by none other than the lovely and crafty Maura Madden, author of Crafternoon. She's pictured below.
Our goal? Christmas ornaments. We could pick from the wide range of items they’ve got stocked there. I felt like a kid again with a big table filled with markers and paint, glue and string, feathers and pom-poms.
As is the case with crafting, sometimes the project takes on a life of its own. I set out to maybe make mini figures of my two sisters and me, but ended up with something entirely different -- a kind of festive-looking couple, she with a cape and jaunty beret, and he with a red scarf.
This lady is a cross between a Christmas angel and a competitive ice skater.
Jen got racy with her designs, and created three splashy Vegas showgirls! Adorable. Nothing says the holidays like a sparkly two-piece and a headdress.
All in all, we had a lovely time. If you’re in the NY area, check out Spacecraft! A great, fun (and cheap!) way to spend an afternoon. From left to right: Jen, me, Maura and Stella (co-founder of Spacecraft).
