On Friday we'll be broadcasting live from Emeril's Miami Beach from 2 to 4 pm ET, bringing you the best tailgate recipes from Mario Batali, Douglas Rodriguez, and the Taste of the NFL chefs representing Indianapolis and New Orleans.
But before we get to the top chefs, we asked you to send in your top tailgate recipes to share with Emeril, and it sure was hard to narrow it down to just four favorites! You can get the recipes he talked about on today's show at Emerils.com, and you can download listeners' tailgating recipes here.
It's not a Super Bowl party without beer, so we also asked Civilization of Beer founder Samuel Merritt to come by to offer advice on choosing the right brews and serving them in style.
You’ll see dozens of different styles of beer on supermarket shelves, but Samuel taught us that you can boil it down to just two fundamental types: lagers and ales.
He also explained that although all beers have the same basic ingredients...
...there’s a simple explanation for the many different colors and flavors that beers can have.
Samuel brought in several great beers that he recommends for any tailgate party. From left to right, they were Coors Banquet, Bluepoint Toasted Lager, Ommegang Witte Ale , Brooklyn Brewery Local 1 , Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Stone Smoked Porter, and Dogfish Head Red & White. An informal survey of the crew at Sirius XM named Local 1 the casual taster's favorite, with Ommegang and Bluepoint coming in just behind.
Samuel also has a good argument for serving beer in a glass, and it’s not just to look classier.
