A brownie is a small square of an extremely dense chocolate cake, formed from the most basic kitchen staples: butter, sugar, eggs, and flour -- not to mention plenty chocolate and cocoa powder. Long before they were edible, Brownies were a character form Celtic folklore. Those Brownies were friendly visitors Scottish farms. They’d even help out around the house -- in exchange for food, of course. But they quickly turned on those who weren’t nice.
