Martha Stewart Living Radio: The Radio Blog

A "Day in the Life" with Living Today Host, Mario Bosquez

Posted by MSLO Blogger

A great way to figure out if a career is right for you is to talk to successful people in that field.  That's why on Making a Living, I showcase a "day in the life" with people like Martha Stewart, Deepak Chopra, and Sally Field just to name few.

These informational interviews offer invaluable insights to those looking for a job or career change.  To learn more about how to conduct an informational interview check out Informational Interviewing 101.

Many of you have contacted me to learn about a career in radio.  What better way than to learn from our own successful hosts.  Here's what Mario Bosquez had to say about a day in the life as host of Living Today:

How did you know you wanted to work in radio?

Initially, I didn't know I wanted to work in radio.  It seemed to flow naturally from early school experiences when teachers (who realized that I could read at almost the high school level when I was in the second grade) would put me in front of the class to read.  It wasn't always the most pleasant experience since I was the target of some schoolyard bullying due to my reading level.  However, I continued to develop my reading skills and I felt safer and more comfortable in speech and drama activities.  That led to an interest in pursuing a career in writing and communications.  I worked in radio right out of college as a newscaster and reporter.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is doing exactly what Martha likes to do and what she advised me when I first started hosting, "Living Today."  That is, knowing that we are teachers first and the learning process is a daily, continuing experience where we learn from each other every day.

What's one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring radio host?

My advice is to read, read, read.  I feel a good radio host is well-informed on many topics and issues.

Thank you Mario for sharing your experiences in radio.  If you have a career you want to learn more about, contact me.  Stay tuned for more day in the life interviews here on the Martha Radio Blog!
