Pickled Presents
Posted by Lisa Mantineo
This past week, "Everyday Food" engineer Shavon Meyers and I were hard at work, making pickled presents for our mothers. Check out the gallery below to see the impressive pickles and peppers we created with the help of our radio host Sandy Gluck, and two great recipes from Mary-Anne Dragan's book, "Well Preserved: Small Batch Preserving for the New Cook."
1 Sandy gathered together all of the ingredients for Shavon and I to start our pickling projects.
2 Under Sandy's instruction, Shavon began loading her jar with sugar, garlic, and two types of bell peppers.
3 My recipe called for a seasoning mix that Sandy prepared for me with some herbs and spices she had at home.
4 I began to fill my jars with dill, garlic, salt and a few cucumbers.
5 Sandy had purchased extra kirby cucumbers for me to cut up and add in.
6 Our nearly finished projects, with a special one we created for Sandy to the far left.
7 Viola! Our pickled presents all ready for gifting.
