Emeril Spends a Happy Hour with Three of New York's Top Bartenders
Posted by MSLO Blogger
1 A fantastic Old Fashioned fashioned by Richard Boccato of Dutch Kills.
2 Richard, Julie, and Dushan gathered in studio with Emeril.
3 On the air, our three barkeeps were surrounded by fruits, liquors, and sodas.
4 Richard brought in huge, perfectly clear ice cubes from his bar.
5 Just one was enough for the Old Fashioned Richard made for Emeril.
6 Field trip to my neighborhood: Here's Dutch Kills, in an industrial building marked with just a small neon sign. Inside it's dark, woody, and lovely.
7 The menu of special cocktails at Dutch Kills is revised frequently.
Three of New York's best bartenders (not mixologists, thank you very much) - Richard Boccato of Dutch Kills, Dushan Zaric of Employees Only, and Julie Reiner of Flatiron Lounge, Clover Club, and Lani Kai - joined Emeril in studio today to talk about the history of cocktails and how to make them properly. Listen to this clip to learn why an ingredient you can make at home might do more to improve the quality of your drinks than any premium priced liquor.
Was James Bond wrong to order his martini shaken not stirred? How is vodka like tofu? These questions and more are answered herein.
If you missed the show, you can catch replays tonight at 7pm ET and Saturday at 10 am ET. Alternatively, you could just grab a seat at one of the bars and watch closely, or check out Dushan's new book, Speakeasy. Cheers!
