With the arrival of January comes that post-holiday slump, freezing cold weather (if you live in the northeast like me), as well as the obligatory "cut out all things bad" diet, all of which can make this month significantly less fun than last. There isn't a whole lot we can do about the sub-freezing temps or the fact that most holiday decorations have been removed, but there is a way we can spice up that supposed "diet."
That's where the Whole Living Action Plan: 28-Day Challenge comes into play. It's "a 28-day jump-start on a year of total mind and body wellness," and it doesn't focus on eliminating all things "bad" or running your body to the ground.
To help you on your journey to completing this challenge, we'll have Action Plan experts on "Whole Living" once a week throughout the month of January. They'll offer tips and answer questions on everything from fitness, to healthy eating, to achieving a more balanced lifestyle.
To kick off the challenge, Ellen Barrett, fitness pro and Whole Living contributor, joined us on today's show. Despite her toned physique and stacked resume (she's authored a book and created several best-selling DVDs), she's got a pretty balanced approach to working out and doesn't believe in killing one's body to get in shape. Throughout the show, Ellen discussed several ways we can get exercise without actually "working out," the importance of sleeping and hydrating, and how we can practice nurturing fitness.
