Social media can be a great way to cheaply get the word out about you/your business. I recommend Dan Schawbel's book Me 2.0 for great insights in creating your brand and marketing plan using social media.
Barbara's book - Use What You've Got also has great insights. I found it very helpful as a budding entrepreneur when I read it in 2003.
