Day 1 of the 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was as exciting as expected. Judging commenced for the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding breeds. Without question, the best feature of the dog show is that it is a 'benched' show, meaning that when not competing, the dogs must be out on display. This is meant to be an educational experience, allowing the public to interact with the dogs and to speak with breeders, handlers, and groomers to learn about the breeds. I was lucky enough to meet a lot of the dogs in the benching area on day 1.
