How to Make Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juice at Home
Posted by MSLO Blogger
1 Here's what went into the juice I made from a recipe in Whole Living: beets, watercress, carrots, and cabbage.
2 Here's the Hurom Slow Juicer setup: It assembles in about a minute.
3 The ingredients, once cut up in juicer-friendly two inch pieces, filled a one gallon pot.
4 Though it's a "slow juicer" it isn't so slow, my 20 oz batch of juice was done in about 3 minutes. It takes a little longer to clean it afterwords though!
5 You get dry pulp out of the extractor, perfect for the compost pile.
6 There is just slightly more juice than there is waste in the end.
7 Juice stripes are cool, right? The result of putting one ingredient through at a time.
8 Juice made this way, sealed up tight and kept in a cold refrigerator, can keep for up to 2 days.
Today on Whole Living we got a lesson in juicing at home from Marcus Antebi of New York's The Juice Press. I'm a big fan of making fresh juices at home for breakfast using a Hurom Slow Juicer (the same one Martha recently used on her TV show)...and I'll admit that occassionally I'll juice for a few days to drop a few pounds. Recipes are useful when you first get started, but as Marcus said today, you won't go wrong just mixing up whatever fruits and vegetables look good at the market. If you got inspired by today's segment - or you're looking to cut down on how much you spend for the store-bought stuff - here's the recipe from Whole Living for the Carrot, Beet, Cabbage, and Watercress Juice we tasted in studio today. The photos above will show you just how easy it is to make.

When I include antioxidant fruits and veggies, like beets, lemons or oranges, I find that my juice keeps for longer than two days. I make at least a quart at a time and drink it over the course or about four days.

I'll have to experiment with that, Charles!
Today on the show Marcus noted that ginger keeps juices well, and that slow juicers make juice that lasts longer because they don't oxidize it during the juicing process the way that rotary juicers do.

This was the juicer that Martha used on the show last Monday. I went out and bought one that day and our family loves it! We have another juicer at home and it's beautiful, but it was so noisy and we got so little juice that it was too expensive to keep up. We've been using the Hurom every single day and get so much juice. I even made a marinade with it. Next, I'm going to try soymilk and the recipe above! Post more recipes please!

These are all great tips! After researching juicers online, my family found this one to be the most beneficial. This is especially good for my daughter who has a weak immune system and needs healthy, nutritious, easily digestible food. We have gotten used to the slow juicing and cutting up of food to get the most out of the veggies/fruit we're juicing. We have also begun testing some baking recipes using the pulp (think carrot pulp for carrot cupcakes)! Keep the tips and recipes coming!

I saw the Hurom Slow Juicer on the Martha Stewart show about a week or so ago, and after seeing how quiet and how much juice was being produced I went out and bought one that day. I couldn't be happier with my purchase! I can juice and my baby will sleep right through the minimal noise that is being produced, it is truly amazing. All the juices being sold in stores doesn't even come close to the taste and freshness that comes out of my Hurom. Please keep the recipes coming! I could always use more juicing and cooking tips using my juicer!

Please post more!! My son and I juice every morning (he's 10). I make him apple juice but I hide kale and carrot in there.
I caught the segment on the Martha show and I've been telling my friends to get one of these juicers. It's so much more quiet than other juicers I've had before--it's way better. I bought mine at Williams Sonoma and I recommend it!! Go Martha!

My family loves this juicer. It's much better than our old one. We mix n match whatever fruits/veggies that we have around, but were always interested in more recipes.

I love my hurom and I have been using it since last year July and I have been using it daily. I have experiment with many fruits and vegetables and i can say it is the best investment I have ever made so far..http://huromslowjuicersingapore.com
