What’s YOUR favorite summer cocktail or beverage? We asked this question to our guests last week on "Living Today," and it seems that while the margarita is popular, our guests have a wide variety of favorite summer cocktails.
Ryan Brockington is one of the margarita fans. He prefers a margarita with Blanco tequila, orange liquor, fresh lime, and a splash of ginger ale. Engineer Chris Hauselt has declared 2011 “The Summer of the Negroni.” Associate producer Cary Barbor loves fresh lemonade. And I personally love a nice cold beer. Check out what the rest of our guests have to say!
Brian Kelsey, cohost of "Morning Living" on Martha Stewart Living Radio:
Ice cold beer & margarita are my FAVS!
Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito, authors of "Baked: New Frontiers in Baking":
Matt likes sparkling wine and Nato is a fan of the Pimm’s Cup.
Eric Goldstein, owner of Park Avenue Liquors:
The St. Germain Cocktail – Eric says it’s “sweet, refreshing-- what summer should taste like.”
Stir 2 parts sparkling wine, 1 1/2 parts St. Germain elderflower liqueur, and 2 parts club soda together. Garnish with a lemon twist.
Fany Gerson, author of "Paletas" and owner of La NewYorkina:
Just one?? Well I love whisky and soda year round but in the summer I actually love having a mini passion fruit paleta and put it in a glass with tequila and you dip it and eat it. Anything that melts will just go into the paleta. Or for a non-alcoholic treat, I love limeade with chia seeds the best!
Terry Savage, author of "The Savage Truth on Money":
If you're asking my favorite before I do your radio interview, it will be fresh-squeezed lemonade. But after, I would opt for sangria with real fruit in it!
Marlaina Teich, Interior Designer:
Kir Royale
Michele Owens, author of "Grow the Good Life":
My favorite summer drink: a nice glass of falanghina, a white wine from the countryside outside of Naples that tastes like sunshine-- just like my vegetables.
Rick Field, owner of Rick's Picks Pickles:
CAMPARI AND SODA WITH LIME!
Akhtar Nawab, executive chef at La Esquina:
Given my Kentucky roots, it's a tie between mint julep made with Basil Hayden or Bullett Bourbon or a margarita with Herradura Silver, on the rocks, with extra salt.
Lauren Fix, The Car Coach:
Unsweetened iced tea (with a mango flavor) - yum!
Rita Hazan, owner of Rita Hazan Salon:
Pomegranate martini
Marybeth Bond, National Geographic author and founder of Gutsytraveler.com:
My favorite summer drink is a mojito, made with lots of fresh mint. Cool, refreshing, I like to crunch the ice too.
Allen Katz, our resident mixologist:
Gin Daisy
