Watching the Fireworks from Our Offices
Posted by Cary Barbor
Here at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, we are lucky enough to have waterfront property: Our offices sit directly on the Hudson River, on the western edge of Manhattan. This is terrific all year long (the views are spectacular), but it comes in especially handy on July 4 when the MSLO staff gathers on the roofdeck to watch the Macy’s fireworks. They are set off from six barges in the middle of the river, and we had front-row seats.
It was a beautiful, balmy summer evening and the sun set in vibrant pinks and oranges, as though to warm up the crowd for the fireworks show. Staffers and their families picnicked, kids tried on their glow-stick halos, and we all shouted and applauded the intricate, colorful, amazing display. I hope your fourth was just as memorable.

2 My husband Michael and I had some all-American sushi before the fireworks.

6 Happy Independence Day!
7 The show, which featured 40,000 shells exploding, lasted almost 30 minutes.
8 You can see fireworks exploding from four of the six barges.
9 The barges are positioned between 20th street and 55th street (our offices are located at 26th street) which allows many people in both New York and New Jersey a perfect view of the show.
