Every other Friday we do a how-to cooking segment, right in our studio. Today, it was cake pops, straight out of  the Bites section of this month's (October issue) of "Everyday Food" magazine. You can always count on Everyday Food magazine to come up with fun and easy ways of making treats. All you need are lollipop sticks, which you can find at craft, party, and baking supply stores, store-bought pound cake, chocolate, and fun decorations such as colored sprinkles, sugar, and candies. Here's how:

Cake Pops :
1. Cut pound cake into 1-inch slices and cut into rounds using a 2 1/2-inch cookie cutter. Melt semisweet chocolate chips either in a microwave or in the top of a double boiler.

2. Place on round at a time on the tines of a fork and submerge in chocolate. Transfer to a wire rack set in a rimmed baking sheet and let excess chocolate drip off, 5 minutes.

3. While chocolate is still wet, using an offset spatula, transfer rounds to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Carefully insert lollipop sticks on one side. Decorate with colored sugar, sprinkles or small candies. Refrigerate until set, 10 minutes.

  • Sandy:
Last week you mentioned making granola. Do you have a complete recipe posted anywhere? You mentioned the amounts of liquids, but not how many oats, nuts, etc. this would work with.
    Thank you!

  • Hi Sandy, What a clever way to use a pound cake to make really cute cake pops for kids on Halloween! I just got a pound cake at Costco so will have to try out your brilliant new idea! Thanks for sharing! Jan
