The second day of the 136th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show featured the following group winners: the Irish Setter (Sporting), a Doberman Pinscher (Working), and a Kerry Blue Terrier (Terrier).
Day two's dogs joined day one winners; a Wire Haired Dachshund (Hound), a Pekingese (Toy), a Dalmatian (Non-Sporting), and a German Shepherd (Herding). All seven dogs looked majestic as they stepped into the ring for the Best In Show competition…and the crowd did not hold back in showing enthusiasm for their favorites.
Fans of the more ‘substantial’ breeds were shocked and surprised when judge Cindy Vogels named Malachy, the Pekingese, Best In Show. Wynn Las Vegas posted betting odds on the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (for entertainment purposes only) and picked the Pekingese as the favorite with 6:1 odds. However, there is no denying the character and the quality of this little dog. In fact, Malachy came into the competition with 115 Best In Show wins, the only dog to win more than 100 shows last year.
Malachy was a favorite last year during the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and made it to the Best In Show competition, but was ultimately outdone by ‘Hickory’ the Scottish Deerhound. However, this year Hickory handed over her title as ‘America’s Top Dog’ to little Malachy. For him, the 2nd time is the charm!
