Chef Amanda Freitag returned to the studio to close out her week hosting "Cooking Today." Joining Amanda for her final broadcast were David Trotta, Director of Operations for Jack's Stir Brew Coffee, for a little "coffee talk," and mixologist/bartender of The Venue at Little Owl, Robert Crosson.
Amanda and David discussed the importance of using organic ingredients. David explained that the process of stir brewing coffee is exclusive to Jack's Stir Brew Coffee because the owner, Jack, came up with the concept himself. David shared that Jack's Stir Brew Coffee was the first coffee shop in New York City to serve local Hudson Valley milk. One of his favorite things that Jack's does however is cold pressed juices which has three pounds of produce per bottle!
In the "What's on Tap?" segment, Robert shared four delicious summer cocktails that are super easy to make. Robert likes to make drinks in the same style a chef cooks and uses seasonal ingredients. He made a lovage lemonade, a peach tarragon mojito, an heirloom tomato martini with droplets of basil oil, and the "chef special" which is made with grapefruit juice and tequila. Robert explained that the most important thing to have when making cocktails is a simple syrup because it is a natural way to sweeten drinks and can stay in the fridge for a long time. For the at-home mixologist however, Robert's best suggestion was to use tupperware to shake drinks if you don't have a shaker!
