New Clues Served Up on Ruth Bourdain

Posted by

The anonymous master behind foodie parody character Ruth Bourdain made a rare media appearance this morning on Morning Living. Yes Ruth Bourdain -- Not former Gourmet editor and daily tweeter of haiku Ruth Reichl, nor globe-trotting gastro-evangelist bad boy Anthony Bourdain. Ruth Bourdain is a modern creation, started as a parody twitter account mashup of the two, and has had the food world guessing ever since. He (or she, but this show staff leans male) called into Morning Living today and used voice changing software to further disguise their identity. They say this whole thing got started because of Reichl's poetic tweeting:

Still, Betsy and Brian were able to chip away at who might be behind this personality fusion.
Bourdain gave us some clues as to their true identity, but only in Ruth Bourdain-ease:

Let's recap, the person behind Ruth Bourdain confessed to being:

Pho-cker - one who lives Pho, Vietnamese Soup
a member of the Pizza Lobby
often a Whole Foodie
NOT a Zagateer - not a fan of Zagat Guides
bit of a Bone-ovian - lovers of Bone Marrow
Definitely NOT an Olive Gardener

Further muddying the waters of pretension, Ruth Bourdain said they don't consider themselves a foodie, and rather would like to be called a "culinary enthusiast."

Chef? Blogger? Anthony Bourdain himself? Who do YOU think is behind this two-headed sensation?
In the meantime check out Ruth Bourdain's book Comfort Me With Offal, the definitive guide to eating, drinking, and fondling food.
